TONE

I was still struggling with the fact that my mother was alive. I’d been without my mother since I was two years old, and I was twenty-two; my birthday was next month, so I would be twenty-three. All my life, I heard my mother just up and left with another man. My dad never thought that though; he always made sure I knew who my mother was. I remembered days I would come home from school, and dad would watch reruns of him and my mother on trips and their wedding day. He had the pictures they had took when she was in our lives formed into a DVD, and he would watch them all day and night.

My dad truly loved my mother, and that’s what I admired him the most for; he never forgot about her as the years passed, nor did he have different women in and out of our home. He was truly devoted to my mother; that’s why I was so shocked when he told me he had a new woman in his life. I didn’t see that coming at all; I knew my mother was the one that kept my dad in good spirits. If I knew my dad was with Star, I would have gave him a clear warning that bitch was nothing but trouble. Sooner or later, that bitch would get hers; she managed to get away from the attempts she had put on my girl and my pops life. She was a dead women walking on borrowed time.

“Baby, I know this is a lot to take in and I can see that you are so hurt. What would you like to do? I can order us some food, or would like to go walking on the beach,” Tasi had said.

That’s what I loved about Tasi; she knew how to make thing better, and she never forced an issue. All she wanted me to do was be okay. I loved that girl more than life.

“Babe, I just want to chill for tonight, can you please order us some food?”

“Sure baby, what would like to eat?”

“Order us some seafood babe, that’s what I have a taste for, and some fruits. I love you Tasi, and thanks for loving a man like me.”

“I love you Tone unconditionally; you came in my life as a man. I know you’re thinking about your mother, and I know when you meet her she will have you be part of her life. I’m going to order this food, I love you.”

That’s what was bothering me the most. When I saw her, would she look the same or would she really old? I wondered if she would love me with open arms, or turn her back on me. I wondered if she would even remember she had a child, or could she remember anything at all. I didn’t know what to expect. I would have to cross that bridge when it came. I knew I had been without my mom for years, and I needed her more than she knew.
